Dr. Curtis Rogers interviews the staff members of the South Carolina Center for Community Literacy: Christine Shelek, Executive Director; Liz Hartnett, Program Coordinator; and Valerie Byrd Fort, Cocky’s Reading Express Coordinator. The Center is the state’s designated examination site for new children’s and YA books, which are available to the public. Cocky's Reading Express™ is the University of South Carolina’s literacy outreach program. USC students travel the state with their friend, Cocky, visiting elementary schools across South Carolina. The students read to the children, and Cocky helps the children understand the importance of life-long reading.
